Single-use, sterilized, stainless steel needles are gently inserted into specific points along the body to achieve homeostatic balance. The needles are very fine and most people do not even notice the insertion, however, occasionally it can produce a quick pinching as it enters the skin. It is not uncommon to experience the sensation of the "energy arriving at the point" or "spreading to another area of the body". Patients often are aware of radiating warmth, tingling or a dull heaviness. Needles can be left in for 20-30 minutes while you relax on the table. This allows you the opportunity to rest, relax and even nap.
While you rest, your body is undergoing physiological changes including the recruitment of parasympathetic nervous system involvement and a reduction of sympathetic tone. This promotes healing and restoration. Studies have also shown changes in brain chemistry as well as de-activation of particular areas of activation in your nervous system leading to heightened relaxation, healing, and awareness.
